Embarrassing Moment #579

I don't think I'm that way off the number either.  I have a truckload of those oh so perfect moments.  Remember?  Now, I have heard that these things happen, but do they REALLY?  Do they happen to you?  Sigh...

Last night I left work to go pick up a couple of things at the grocery store (very snowy night I must add).  As I parked my car, I noticed that I was right beside a car that looks exactly like mine, same colour, same model (almost) except that the license plates were from Florida.  I thought to myself '' wow talk about a bad time to be visiting Montreal!  I wouldn't be here today if  I lived in Florida.''  After I packed my bags in the trunk of my car, I brought back my cart to where it belonged then headed back to my car.

See, this is where I realize it's not really all my fault.  It was snowing a lot so it was just normal that I happen to open the door to someone else's car instead of mine, right?  That poor poor woman.  There I go, opening the door to what I think is my car, then the scream that came out of there gave me the fright of my life!   In those few fractions of a second I thought to myself, "who ON EARTH is sitting in my car??"  Well it didn't take me long to figure that one out.  I peeked over the roof and saw my precious little Saturn on the other side.  Oops!  So I closed the door on her gently, then opened it a little bit again enough to tell her I was so so sorry for scaring her like that.  I even yelled it after I had closed the door to make sure she knew I don't make a habit of breaking into innocent people's cars like that.  Not that I do it to enemies either.

As I was cleaning the snow off my car, I started laughing, so I guess she figured I couldn't be that bad so she got out of her car to have a little chat.  We ended up having  a conversation that lasted a good 30 minutes.  Like I'd known her for a long time!  I kindly asked her why she was here, in Montreal, in the middle of a snowstorm when I figured she comes from Florida.  I also explained to her that Florida is one of the states I'm thinking of relocating to.  She gave me some good information about how to go about getting a visa, how people are over there, what to expect, etc.  The good and the bad.

After wishing each other Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, we parted ways.  I don't think I'll ever forget that moment.  Although it is an embarrassing moment, I got to meet a very nice woman who happened to know what I needed to hear about the choices I'm still trying to make.  Funny how life works don't you think?  I kind of feel bad that I never even asked her her name!  Whoever you are, thank you for turning my crummy day into a great one!

My Baby

Today is my baby's 9th birthday.  Wow, how does time fly!!!!  I can't believe it!  I love him with all of my heart.  ALL of it.

Happy Birthday, Monkey Baby!!!!!!

Yes, Yes, I know, I have been gone a long time.  Not that I had nothing to talk about though!  This summer has been a great summer!  We had tons of sun, heat and time with family!   We went to a couple of beaches on the ocean and went camping a few times also.   The first mini-vacation was in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.  Super nice weekend!  It was hot and sunny!  The beach was awesome!

I love this motel.  When it says oceanfront, it means OCEANFRONT!  This was the view from our room.  It was a little gray when we got there but it was still hot to take a dip in the pool!

Here is my girl, deciding if this water is warm enough for her...

My son here looks like he was added to the picture somehow.  I have another picture like that that someone pointed out to me.  I hadn't noticed that this one also looked photo-shopped.  Is it just me?

Oops, this picture came after, it should have been up there with my baby girl's.   He was testing the waters too.

It got so misty at one point!  Look behind the pool!!  We don't even see the ocean!

It finally did clear up after supper.  We were able to enjoy the beach a little!  Although this picture of my babies was taken then, I just squeezed it in because it makes me smile.

THIS, is what we woke up to!  How nice is that?

Man, I shouldn't be doing a post about this trip, I'm starting to miss it again.  Boy is this going to be a long winter!  I only have like, what 11 months to wait??

My guys making a castle...

This shot could have been in a completely different post, but again, I had to put it in today's.  I don't know why I love this one.  The picture I mean, not the girl!  That girl I know exactly why I love her!  Maybe that's why.  I look at this picture and hear the ballad *She* by Elvis Costello in my head...

The second sunrise of our weekend there, taken from our kitchenette.  *Sigh*  Now I REALLY want to go back, like TODAY!

My gang, taking what would be our last walk on the beach that weekend.

I'm a nice mom, I promise!  I don't do stupid things, ever!  Those are NOT my fingers above my son's head.

Sunday afternoon, we sadly had to check out and go back home.  It was a short trip, but how sweet!

To Snargle or Not to Snargle

My boy has such a hard time with the verb snorkel.  He goes from "snargle" to "snorgle" to "snarkle"...

Just never "snorkel".  At one point I almost had him saying it properly, when his friend asked him if he could snargle with him...Sigh..

We have a small pool for the kids.  Thank God we bought one!  With the weather we've been getting, they spend their every waking hour in there. My daughter especially, she never comes out of the water unless she has a good reason to.

See?  She won't even come out just for a picture!

My baby, in the meantime is trying to tell her to stop posing so they can do some snorgling (it's catchy too!) together.

Look, Sista!  This is how you snargle!

Mommy, can I just say it my own way?  Snargle?

Whatever...  I'll let it slide for a while.  It'll pass one day.  I hope!

Favourite Things

I don't know why but I just having a really hard time writing these days.  Maybe too much going on?  Although I'd have tons to say, none of those subjects are blog worthy.  So instead, let's talk about favourite things.  Here are a few of mine...(Besides my home btw, my home is my favourite EVER...besides my family, of course, but they are not things, they are my favourite people, so it doesn't apply really...anyway, let's move on...)

Our car!!  Man-oh-man do I like our car...(Let's not get confused with obsession here).  And in case you're wondering, no, we haven't had a speeding ticket since we bought it.  And we've had it for one year, 2 months and 8 days!  (I know you're thinking about that word I wrote a couple of lines up, but it's not true, really..)

For years I dreamed of owning a pair of cowboy or biker boots.  One day, about 5 years ago I guess, I finally gave in, splurged and ordered a pair online, only to realize when I received them that I couldn't get my feet in unless I had zippers put in on the sides.  So I sadly put them on the highest shelf in my closet and pushed them aside.  I just don't DO things like going to a shoe repair shop.  Until a couple of months ago.  Boy am glad I decided to take them out and have those zippers put in!  And it wasn't such a big job either!  These babies are like the most comfortable boots I have EVER worn.  Better than slippers I tell ya!

My camera is also one of my favourite toys.  The pictures I've taken since we have it!  My laptop has also been my bff for a couple of years now.

Oh, and this is not necessarily a thing, but I love food!  Lasagna...Steak and garlic mashed potatoes.  Homemade soups, salads.  I could put up pictures of all my favourite meals but it wouldn't be fair to you guys to make your browser freeze or crash on you like that.  I think I'm hungry now.

And Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred DVD!  Remember that one?  Thank God I love that dvd!  I need it to keep that lasagna and friends off my hips!

Speaking of Jill...I really really really have to start up again.  In case you guys want to try it, trust me, it works!  You want results?  You'll get them!

Before I go way off the subject, what are your favourite things and/or weaknesses?  Do you like food?  A certain tool?  A t-shirt that says "Someone in Florida loves me"?

I've written about my family, my travels, etc.  Now I think it's time to talk about my pets.  A lot of friends of mine call my home a zoo.  They say I that soon I might have to charge people to come in my home!  Nah, it's not that bad, I think.

My cat Maple is just the perfect cat, ever.  She really is.  She's affectionate, completely loyal, and very gentle.  She is always near us and sleeps with the brattiest of my 2 babes.  That only, is a sign that she is precious.

Then I have my 3 year old turtles.  Jamaica, Marley (named after Bob, not the dog) and Angel.  These guys I'll have to put in my will.  Feisty little things!  Red-eared sliders can live up to 70 years old.  I'll never tire of watching my babies.

My daughter has a guinea pig named Nibbles.  Although it's a lot of work to change the cage ever day, she is so adorable that it's worth it!  (My daughter cleans the cage, not me.  I don't do cages).  I was surprised at how responsive they actually are.  They are smart, fun and affectionate too.

Last but not least, I have 2 fire-bellied toads.  I can hear you thinking : "Toads?  What on earth do you do with toads?"  Why I get these ideas I'll never know.  They are cute little things but not very lively.  Their diet mainly consists of crickets.  So that means we have to go out, buy the little bugs, put them in a tank of some sort and feed THOSE guys, which I often forget to feed so that makes me have to go out AGAIN to buy more crickets. You know how long they live?  Average of 12 years.  Some reported living up to 30.  Gulp!  Guess those I'll have to put those guys in my will too!

No pics for those guys, I need to clean that terrarium like hmm, yesterday!

What animals do you have in your home?

OH!!  I forgot!  I also have a monkey!

Fuhgiggles and Grelish

Kids are awesome little creatures, aren't they?  Just the way they express themselves, and what comes out of their mouths can be quite entertaining.  When I was a kid, I used to say "flacecloth" instead of facecloth.  I guess I never realized it was a cloth for the face! One of my brothers used to say "slappers" instead of slippers.

My son said grelish for years!  "Mommy, can I have mustard and grelish on my hamburger please?

"Honey, it's relish, not grelish."

"No, I want grelish."

"Okey dokey!  There ya go, go eat you grelish and enjoy!"

That same son ( I only have one but just in case I got mixed up) was adamant about some lyrics to the Christmas song he and the rest of his kindergarten class had to sing for the yearly show.  It was done in french.  So in case you don't know any french, Santa Claus is Père Noel.  My baby liked to sing it to me.  He was so funny, he'd start off slow and end up singing and dancing super fast, the moves didn't have time to follow.  Anyway.  This conversation happened every single time he sang it to me.

Joey : "Quand le Pè Noège vient me visiter..."

Me : "Buddy, it's not Pè Noège, I'm quite sure it's Père Noel..."

Joey : "No mommy, it's Pè Noège.  Can I continue?"

Me : "Sure!  Sorry cutie, didn't mean to interrupt..."

Joey : "So...Quand le Pè Noège, vient me visiter, il descend par la cheminée..."

Me : "You know what, I'm QUITE sure it's Père Noel....

Joey : "Mommy, it's NOT! It's Pè Noège, that's what they taught us in school"

Me : "Okay then, I'm sorry again, keep going...but..."

Needless to say, there was absolutely nothing I could say to change his mind.  But that's okay, that's what makes the memory so special.
His friend has some good ones too.  You know Dairy Queen?  Well, he says it a little differently, his mom told me the other day.  I can just imagine him too..."Hey Joey!  Want to come to Dirty Queen with us?"  Um...

One day last week he came out with another whopper that was really cute.  "Hey Joey, your dad said we can have a fuhgiggle!"  My boy understood him (I don't know why since he makes ME repeat everything all the time ;)  ) When I realized what he meant, I just had to laugh.  It was too adorable not to.  Fuhgiggles = Fudgesicles.  Priceless!

Kids, gotta love 'em!

Boy, Candy and Camera

I know I have mentioned this before, but my baby is one hard cookie to pin down.  Rarely can I get him to stop moving or to just give me a nice smile.  When I click, I get crossed eyes, tongue sticking out, half a face, the tip of his hair, you know, boy stuff.  But I need pictures of my baby!  And if I wait for a day for him to be clean and outside at the same time, I will never get any.  Ever.  So I finally put my foot down.

Hey Joey!  Lie down on the grass will ya?  I want to take pictures of you!

Who me?

Yes Joey, you.

Joey, can you please stop chewing your gummy candy for a minute?

Joey!!  Can you PLEASE not chew for a few seconds at least?

Yes, I know you think you're funny.

Now smile at me like you mean it.

Much better, now show me some teeth, man!

The candy filled cheek will have to do.  That smile does it for me.  I'd do just about anything for that smile.

The super long 1.5 minute photo session ended with "Ah mommy, now I'm all dirty because you made me lie down in the grass!"

Uh huh, whatever you say Bubba.

I've had my camera for about a year now.  Although I've heard of macro, I've never, ever used it before.  I am (was) more of a people person.  I love people shots, especially my daughter.  That girl is one photogenic chica!  My boy makes faces all the time so it gets tiring after a while.  I can only take so much of 'tongue sticking out' or 'crazy eyes' pics.

Last weekend was a beautiful weekend; sunny and warm.  My girl had disappeared to her friend's house so I was left with no choice but to play around with my camera.  I turned it to macro and thought, what the heck, I'll just try it.  Oh.My.Gosh!  I can't get enough of it!  My neighbours in front have tons of flowers springing up, but since our house is facing NW, our flowers come out a little later in the season.  They only get sun in late afternoon.  My point is, I had no flowers to photograph!!  Just a lot of weeds and dandelions and grass!  It didn't stop me from clicking!  Here are some of my favourites!

I don't know why, but I just like it.  The clear grass with a blurry Mustang.

I love this one.  A typical spring day.  My hubby washing the car in the background.  (No, I am not obsessed with the car.  I promise!)

Our cherry trees are blooming!

Love the messiness of this one.  Looks like I took this picture at an abandoned farm, barn or field.  That's the impression it gives me.

There is no rule against using macro on people, right?  It's her fault she came home early!

Remember the title of my blog?  I'll remind you, it has the word "quirky".  About that 30 day Shred, I'm doing quite well again since I re-started after my one week break.  I'm quite regular.  Mostly.  Every time I skip a day, I start over at day one.  That is actually my brother's fault, I think he's tougher on me than Jillian is!  But it's okay, I love him anyway AND I'll get much more workout than 30 days!  Although I had to start over since I skipped Tuesday, I'm actually at about 12 to 14 times since I started a little over 3 weeks ago.  I'm quite proud of myself.

Anyway, I'm getting off the subject.  I'll get back to the point of this post.  Every single time I do the windmills, my upper lip starts twitching.  I just don't get it.  When I stop, it stops.  Anyone else out there having the same problem?  For some reason I have a feeling no one will say yes.  The more my arms fly, the more my lip goes!  I can imagine what I look like.  Must be quite interesting to see, I should video myself next time.

Speaking of quirks and weird stuff.  When I pluck my eyebrows, the top of my head itches.   So you can imagine...Pluck, scratch, pluck. scratch.
